Yesterday General Motors Company and Spyker Cars N.V confirmed the details of a binding agreement over the transfer of ownership of Saab Automobile AB of Trollhättan, Sweden. The transaction is expected to close in February and Saab Automobile will exit the orderly wind down process in line with that timetable.
The Saab Owners Club (GB) Limited is delighted that the uncertainty facing Saab Automobile AB for the last 15 months since GM placed the company under strategic review is now concluded with a positive outcome. The Club has lent its support to the recent worldwide Save Saab convoys and was fundamental in organising the UK based event held on January 17 from Luton, Beds to the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. Some 500 Saab owners from all over the UK attended this event to show their support for Saab. To date over 60 convoys have taken place in countries all over the world, involving some 10,000 Saab owners.
Club Chairman Richard Elliott said:
“We have all been on tenterhooks since the apparent deal with Koeniggsegg fell through last November, and with GM subsequently initiating proceedings to wind down the Saab business. Since then, Spyker have come to secure a positive future for Saab, and to secure the many thousands of jobs that rely on Saab both in Sweden and around the world. All the recent statements made by Spyker CEO Victor Muller show him to be genuinely passionate about the future of Saab and we are confident that his charismatic leadership will help Saab recover from the downturn it has experienced in the last year or so. The Saab Owners Club will continue to provide information, support, advice, social events and entertainment for Saab Owners not just in the UK but throughout the world.”
