Rally legend Per Eklund to drive at the ADAC 24-hour Nürburgring Classic

About 30 years after his last participation in a 24-hour race at the Nurburgring, rally legend Per Eklund will appear with a Saab 900 Turbo 16S in the ADAC 24 hour Classic race on 14 May on the North Loop. The car is prepared and used by the Hamburg Saab Dealer and Nordschleife expert, Nico Gasparatos from www.saabservice.de.

GasparatosSaab900Eklund.jpgPer Eklund, one of the most successful rally drivers of the '70s and '80s, is usually seen with his 650-hp Saab 9-3 Turbo 4x4 in the Rally Cross European Championship. But at this year's Classic race in the 24-program the 38th ADAC Zurich 24h-race at the Nürburgring, it draws the 64 year old 1999 Rallycross Champion in the cockpit of a different kind.

"When I offer got to be able to compete with a classic Saab 900 Turbo on the Nordschleife, I immediately loved the idea," said the Swedish driver.

The vehicle, a Saab 900 Turbo 16S, has been rebuilt according to the Group A regulations, made presentations to a first test on the track in the best Danish Padborg prepared. "I was surprised how accurately I can drive the car, especially with the power from the 300 hp motor - we will definitely have some fun," says Per Eklund about the race on the ring.

Classic Car and Saab specialist Nico Gasparatos enters with his Saab 900 Turbo after more than 10 years of success in the classic car-racing scene, and, the reliability of GasparatosSaab900-1.jpgextravagant classic has improved substantially. The Saab 900 Turbo 16S is from 1984 and has the usual safety features, such as a shrink-wrapped Safety cell, a security tank and a special homologation of the corresponding Braking system. A special technical highlight of the vehicle is the so-called APC System, an electronic control of the turbo boost pressure. This system not only protects the engine from damage, it makes especially for powerful torque. In 1982, Saab was the first manufacturer able to offer an active boost pressure regulator.
