Saab’s first crossover vehicle, the 9-4X, made its European premiere at this month’s Brussels Motor Show. It took centre stage on the Saab stand alongside the all new Saab 9-5 Saloon, the latest 9-3 range with turbo diesels delivering class leading efficiency in terms of low CO2 per unit of horsepower, and Saab’s first EV, the 9-3 ePower.
Due to go on sale in Europe from August, the 9-4X continues the biggest new product offensive in Saab’s history and will give the newly independent company access for the first time to the growing, mid-size crossover segment. It offers progressive design, comfort and versatility alongside car-like driving qualities and will provide a fresh, alternative choice for buyers in the segment.
A selection of 9-3 models on display will include ultra-low emission Saloons powered by 1.9 twin turbo diesels giving just 119 g/km CO2and up to 180 hp – an unrivalled level of efficient performance for the compact segment.
The Saab 9-3 ePower is the prototype for a test fleet of 70 vehicles which will participate in extensive field trials in Sweden this year. It is a full-sized wagon with a projected 200 km driving range which pushes the boundaries of current EV performance.
“We are currently embarked on the biggest new product offensive in Saab’s history,” says Saab Automobile CEO Jan Åke Jonsson. “The launch of the 9-4X follows the introduction of the new 9-5 Saloon just six months ago and the arrival of the much-awaited 9-5 SportWagon later in the year. The Brussels Show is the start of an extremely busy year for us.”
Jan Åke Jonsson and Saab Automobile Chairman Victor Muller hosted a press conference on the Saab stand at 10.30 am on Press Day, 14 January.
