Welcome to the Saab Owners Club

Saabs @ Cadwell

The 2015 National will be held at Cadwell Park in the glorious Lincolnshire Wolds from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 July, combining a Track Day on the Sunday with the usual festivities of our annual national event. It is appreciated that the date is earlier than usual, however members have been asking for an event where cars move and this is the closest date to the ‘normal’ date which we could secure

Follow this link for full details

The day is nearly upon us!  Could those who have booked the Track event please remember to bring both parts of their driving licence.  If you are new to trackdays visit the Cadwell Park site has some useful information.

Two Stroke

The Two Stroke Register caters for all two stroke-engined SAAB's including the models 92, 93, 95 and 96.

The Register aims to keep interested members informed of surviving examples of these cars, as well as information regarding parts availability, maintenance advice and details of specialist restorers/rebuilders, of these early SAABs. Articles covering these aspects appear in the bi-monthly club magazine 'SAAB DRIVER'.

Wider-ranging interests are catered for as the Register also covers the history of the SAAB company, with a specific focus on the rallying heritage of the marque.

Links with SAAB clubs in, particularly, Sweden and the USA are being maintained and expanded.

  • GALLOWAY HILLS RALLY

As the final round, the Galloway Hills Rally was not a scoring round for us and my driver took the decision not to contest it, giving me a chance to dust off the 99 for another blast through the woods. Martin MacCabe, a Scottish Championship regular kindly agreed to read the notes. With a two car team bolstered by Grant Inglis in his lovely new MK2 Escort we made a good spectacle as the service barges towed us into the Rally HQ in the pretty town of Castle Douglas.

  • Who was Erik Carlsson?

    Erik Carlsson

Many new members to the Club ask the same question -  “Who is Erik Carlsson?”  I suppose a lot of people who were not around in the 60s have never heard of him even though this giant of a man is often referred to as “Mr SAAB”.

Erik was born in 1929 in Trollhattan, Sweden, not far from the SAAB factory, but at that time the factory was only producing aircraft. Erik was 20 when production of the first SAAB cars started.  His first passion was motorbikes, he bought a Norton 500 new when he was 18 from Nystrom’s where he was working. Pelle Nystrom was the Norton importer for Sweden. At weekends he took part in hillclimbs, motorcross, road racing and, during the winter, ice track racing.
