Being produced for over 15 years the Saab "Classic" 900 was a major player in Saabs continued success throughout the 80’s and early 90’s. In this period over 900,000 were produced and included nearly 50,000 of the elegant and stylish convertible.
Derived from the Saab 99, the 900 was very different car indeed. It featured a new front section, re designed rear and a new interior said to be based on cockpit design principles.
The SAAB Owners Club caters for the owners of all models of the SAAB 9000
Over the years the 9000 has developed from the first launch in 1985 to become one of the Classic models of the later part of the century.
From the normally aspirated fuel injection models through to the Turbocharged versions, all can be seen regularly at the Club meetings.
If you look under a 1999 SAAB 9-3 you will find much that is like a Vauxhall Cavalier of an earlier vintage. This is the result of the marriage of SAAB with General Motors. First born of this union was a new 900, shaped with styling references to the old (pre-GM) 900. With very little change to the body work but very necessary and important honing of the engineering, and improved quality, the 9-3 was born. Both 900 and 9-3 were available as practical 3- and 5-door hatchbacks. Evolution afforded an all-turbo 9-3 range of 2-litre engines that produced 150- 205 bhp, a 2.3 turbo in the Viggen: 225 bhp; and finally a 2.2 diesel engine was made available – SAAB’s first.
Both the 900 and 9-3 versions have sported very popular and stylish convertibles.
Any members should feel free to contact the Registrar for advice, information, or to share details of their Gm900 or 9-3 models.
The all-new 9-5 series strengthened Saab's position in the mid-size premium segment by replacing the long-running 9000 with two distinct bodystyles, a sedan and a wagon. The sedan was launched in 1997 and the wagon - Saab's first since the 95 model in 1959 – came a year later. Both were penned by Saab’s Norwegian designer, Einar Hareide.
Bold styling adopted design cues from the second-generation 900 model. The rising, wedge-shaped waistline, the 'hockey stick' line into the 'C'-pillars, the shape of the front lights and the oval door handles were all key Saab identifiers. The 9-5 also included a 'clamshell' hood, last seen in the 99/900 series. The sedan's coupé-like roof line and integrated boot-lid spoiler contributed to an excellent drag co-efficient of just 0.29, the lowest figure achieved at that time by Saab for a production car.

14 Ebor Saab members set off on Friday 10 May to make their separate ways to the assembly point at Gretna Green for what was billed as a Scottish Mystery Weekend, the mystery being only the organisers knew the itinerary. The mystery began to unfold on Saturday morning with a drive along gloriously empty roads under blue skies up into rural Scotland to visit the Kagyu Samye Ling Tibetan Temple at Eskdalemuir (nobody expected a visit the foothills of the Himalayas).
South Yorkshire Saab are no longer meeting. If anyone would like to take up the baton in this part of the world please contact Elli Wilson at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
There is no formal Branch currently in operation (largely as a result of the sheer geographical spread of members across this area) and therefore no regular meetings.
Where possible, there is usually an SOC 'presence' at gatherings across the region organised by other clubs, motor museums or advertised on web forums (principally UKSaabs).
The dates known so far for 2020 at which we aim to be represented are:
